December 9, 2016 - Mazda Teams Up with SCCA for Formula Enterprises Support

Mazda Motorsports and SCCA Enterprises jointly announced at the annual Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show that the two organizations will work together to increase entries, contingencies and future opportunities for racers in Formula Enterprises (FE) cars. Currently, there are more than 100 FE cars throughout the nation, all of which run the Mazda 2.3L MZR motors.

Mazda Motorsports will support FE in three ways. First, the 2017 SCCA National Championship Runoffs FE winner will be eligible for nomination to the Mazda Road to Indy Shootout next year. Second, Mazda Motorsports support will increase SCCA Enterprises’ contingency offerings in 2017 to provide both a parts credit and a cash contingency to the top 10 FE finishers participating in Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour races, said SCCA Enterprises President Robey Clark.

“SCCA Enterprises is very excited to announce that our ‘FE’ cars will have increased support from Mazda in 2017,” Clark said. “Our renewed relationship with Mazda Motorsports will allow SCCA Enterprises and Mazda to work together to update the powertrains in the future.”

Finally, Mazda Motorsports Business Development Manager David Cook said Mazda Motorsports will provide PR and marketing support to many drivers as they climb the Mazda Road to Indy ladder.

“We’re thrilled to enhance our existing relationship with SCCA Enterprises and SCCA Club racers,” Cook said. “By partnering with SCCA Enterprises, we are able to provide additional support to more than 100 Mazda competitors, get a front row seat to some of the best grassroots racing, and better identify top talent for our Mazda Road to Indy ladder. We’re looking forward to a great 2017 season culminating with what we anticipate will be a record number of Mazda racers at the 2017 SCCA Runoffs.”

Mazda Motorsports boasts the most comprehensive auto racing development ladder system of any auto manufacturer in the world. The Mazda Road to 24 program offers a number of scholarships to advance drivers up the sports car racing ladder, beginning with the Global MX-5 Cup series and culminating with the Mazda Prototype team. The Mazda Road to Indy is a similar program that includes Mazda-powered categories of USF2000, Pro Mazda and Indy Lights. In grassroots road racing, more Mazdas race on any given weekend in North America than any other manufacturer. Mazda is also the title sponsor of the renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.
